About Me

Hi, I’m Stephanie, an event planner serving clients throughout the DMV (Washington DC, Maryland, and Northern Virginia).

A Baltimore native, I earned my degree from Boston University and moved to DC nearly 20 years ago for my first corporate job. Over the years, I’ve lived and worked across DC, Arlington, and Alexandria — building my career in leading and developing projects in healthcare communications and SaaS technology.

Today, I help nonprofit and individual clients plan high-impact, well-executed events through a disciplined project management-focused approach. To learn more, please visit my Portfolio page.

I now live in Fairfax, VA with my husband, our son, and our rescue dog. When I’m not working, you’ll find me at the beach, cooking with friends, crafting, or volunteering for animal rescue and adoption causes.

Whether you're looking for an event planner in Northern Virginia or a remote collaborator anywhere in the U.S., I’d love to connect!

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: So… you plan parties for a living?
A: Yes and no! Social gatherings like galas and weddings from my side of things is more about detailed checklists and Excel spreadsheets than partying -- but yes, my goal is to make sure my clients' events are exactly what they have dreamed of -- whether that's an intimate gathering against the backdrop of lo-fi or bossa nova vibes or a big, loud, and loving dance party!

Q: What's a persimmon? Why persimmons?
A: Persimmons are a fruit native to East Asia, so naming my company Persimmon Planning Co is a subtle nod to my Chinese heritage. It's also my absolute favorite color -- it exudes a bright warmth to me, which is a quality I strive to bring to all my work and interactions as a professional.

Q: Are you a freelancer or do you plan events full time?
A: BOTH! I freelance for a couple of clients and while I don't work 9 to 5, I do on average spend at least 35 hours a week working as a planner. I've traveled all over the US supporting nonprolfit and corporate client events. I am a former professional services account manager turned event planner -- check my LinkedIn for a full account of my pre-events career as well as current projects.

Q: What's your philosophy on planning successful events?
A: The most important thing is to overprepare and hope you won't need all your contingency plans. Also, the guest experience and the goal of the event are paramount. If we collaborate to meet your goals and your guests are happy (including you!) -- I'll raise a glass to that!

Q: How many events do you work on simultaneously?
A: At any given time, I'm likely working on 2-3 corporate events with both short and long planning periods (anything from 45 days to 8 months). I take no more than 1 weekend event per month -- that includes weddings, mitzvahs, festivals, etc.

Q: How do you decide if you'll take on a new client?
A: I generally start with an intro meeting (usually virtual) where I try to gauge a potential client's goals and priorities. If I believe I can meet the challenge and am available on the dates needed, I let you know right away. Of course, the feeling needs to go both ways -- so we kind of take it from there!

Seriously, feel free to ask me anything!
